Arriving in London for your course can feel exciting and a little busy. This guide gives you all the important information you need for Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
After your plane lands at Heathrow or Gatwick, follow the signs for Arrivals. Make sure you have your passport and travel documents ready. These may include:
Passport – your main ID for entering the UK
ETA / visa (if required) – any authorisation to enter the country
Flight tickets or boarding pass – sometimes needed at border control
You will go through border control, where an officer may check these documents. Answer any questions politely and follow their instructions.
Next, collect your baggage from the baggage claim area if you checked in luggage. Follow the signs for your flight number to find the correct carousel.
Once you have your bags, continue to the arrivals hall. Look out for one of our CES Oxford social staff wearing a yellow shirt, holding a sign that says “CES Oxford”.
Our staff will meet you at the arrivals gate and lead you to the group pick-up area, where your coach transfer to Wheatley will be waiting. If you cannot see the CES staff immediately, stay near the arrivals hall or the information desk, and they will find you.
Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world, with five terminals (Terminals 1–5, although Terminal 1 is now closed) serving flights from many countries. The airport has plenty of facilities for students, including cafés, restaurants, shops, free Wi-Fi, and toilets in every terminal. Signs are clear, and airport staff are happy to help if you are unsure where to go.
